Week 1 without Daddy

Daddy's first night at work!

Week 1 of Daddy back to work on nights (6pm-8am) on the acute care service.  Poor thing, he is so exhausted trying to keep up with the demands at work and alter his sleep schedule.  The kids and I have been trying to stay busy so we don't dwell on his absence.  It's been super hot, as is usual here in the summer so on Monday we went over to the local splash pad and cooled off.  There is a shaded playground across the street from the splash pad and since we were wet it wasn't that bad.  We did have to use the towels so our buns didn't burn!

Reading books in Abby's tent before bedtime on Tuesday.
We started our 4th of July festivities eating breakfast with my dad and step-mom at their ward party.
Next up, we went to the Pearson's for swimming and a BBQ.  Ironically of all days it could rain, it rained during our BBQ.  Luckily it was a short rainstorm and cooled the air off enough for us to happily sit outside.  The kids were able to enjoy or cry during the "fireworks".
This picture of Tyler crying made me cry!  David got off about 2 hours late on the 4th because most people had the day off.  That meant that he slept until the very last minute before he had to go back to work.  Tyler stayed next to the garage door crying and saying daddy over and over.  It was heart wrenching.  The funny/sad thing was that Abby could have cared less that David was leaving again.  I guess that tells you who they're more attached to.  Luckily he was willing to cheer up in time to watch Gnomeo and Juliet (check it our if you haven't yet, it's super cute) and eat "pa-corn" as Abby calls it.
A fun and much needed project I've been working on at night, other than the 30x30 outfit challenge, is putting together our life stories with important documents all in one place.  Click here for more detail.

Thursday we hit up the library and Mickey-D's.  I love the face Abby is making as she takes a bite of "hangaburg".

Saturday David was off and we bought a Honda Odyssey!  I'm in love!!!

David and I celebrated with a date night to get Sushi, Cheesecake at Cheesecake Factory and bought home items at Target.  We survived!

What to do with all of this time to myself?

David started his first rotation on nights which I have a love/hate relationship with.  I hate it because we don't get to have that much needed alone time away from the kids to talk and hang out.  However, I really do love it because it forces me to stay busy at night instead of veg on the couch and watch Netflix for 3 or 4 hours!  Since this is only night 3 for me I have been mostly deciding what projects I want to start.  I was looking at The Small Things blog (thesmallthingsblog.com) for some much needed help on how to do my now shoulder length hair when I came across this fun activity.  It's called the 30x30 challenge.  Basically, you take 30 items from your closet and make 30 outfits from them. It's a way to challenge yourself to be creative and rethink your wardrobe while trying to avoid shopping.  I decided to do it and I want you to do it too!  Here are my choices so far.  I will post my first 3 outfits this week.  I bet you can't wait??  I know Page, Robyn and Holly will love this challenge. :)

 4 pairs of shoes
Jewelry assortment
 4 bottoms
 3 bold (for me) tops
 2 dresses
 3 belts
 2 cardigans and a scarf
6 neutral shirts
About 30 items if you include each piece of jewelry.
